The party is located in Bingen am Rhein, a
beautiful small town at the junction of the rivers Rhine and Nahe. Bingen is surrounded by a varied landscape, known for its
natural beauty, its castles and other places of interest. It's around 80km west of Frankfurt/Main, and 100km south of Cologne.
Bingen is easily reachable by car (A60 and A61 motorways), by rail (Intercity Express, Intercity, Eurocity and regional trains), by air (Frankfurt-Main, Frankfurt-Hahn and Cologne/Bonn (CGN) airports), and by inland shipping, and therefore is
a perfect choice for an international event like Breakpoint. For details, visit the Travelling page.
The party will start on Good Friday, April 6th at 12:00PM and end on Easter Monday, April 9th at 1:00PM. This
makes 73 hours of non-stop fun.
Breakpoint is a 100% not-for-profit event solely organized by volunteers in their spare time. However, we live in a commercial world,
and for most of the things that enable such an event to take place, money has to be paid. That's why attending Breakpoint requires
you to pay an entrance fee that together with the money our sponsors provide cover the costs the event causes (if you are interested,
you can find a list of where the money is going to here).
The entrance fee covers all party features including the competition prize money, the seminars, the non-stop bus shuttle service, and well -
everything else. No additional costs.
The regular entrance fee for the full 4 days full of party is 60 Euros. As you may have noticed, the ticket price has increased
compared to previous years. This is due to two reasons: Firstly, in late 2006 a big merger in the corporate world has taken place, with a well-known
CPU vendor having bought a well-known graphics chip vendor, which used to be one of our two main sponsors in recent years. Due to this, this sponsor
is now gone, leaving a huge hole in our budget behind. Secondly, for 2007, the German sales tax (VAT) has been raised from 16% to 19%. As our tickets
include VAT, this led to even more pressure on our budgets.
We are aware that while for most visitors from Germany and western Europe this increase won't hurt that much, others might be
severly affected (poor people, people from extreme low-income countries). Therefore we'll introduce a social ticket this year. This
ticket also will last for the whole 4 days, and also include everything else the regular ticket includes, but cost only 30 Euros.
As the name implies it means that other sceners will pay for the loss we'll make on this ticket. It therefore will only be available after
pre-registration for people who assured that without the social ticket they would be completely unable to attend Breakpoint (More info and pre-registration).
Unlike in the past, girls won't get in for free anymore. Girls-get-in-for-free at demoparties was introduced back when the scene
consisted of 99,99% male people. It was meant both as a way to allow male sceners to bring their girlfriends who else would revolt being left
alone for 4 days, and also to attract girls to have a look at computers and the scene. In 2006, Breakpoint had over 100 female visitors. We think
the goal of attracting girls to the scene has been achieved. Also this deal has become a real big budget factor in recent years. And finally
the active female sceners started complaining that this system makes them look like second-class sceners. So after a lot of discussion both
inside the scene and the organizing team itself, we've decided to finally get completely rid of this.
We've also added two new ticket types: The "Compolurker" ticket will also cost 30 Euros, and be valid from Sunday to Monday morning only -
it enables people who don't have time to visit the whole party to come watch the major competitions. Users entering on the compo lurker ticket may
NOT collect competition prizes.
And finally there will be a corporate ticket for
120 Euros. This has been added because during the last years more and more people told us that they'd need a written invoice so their company
can pay for the party expenses. This now will be possible - if you purchase the corporate ticket, you'll get a written invoice that lists the
VAT as a separate position.
Ticket type | Price (Euros) | Remarks |
Regular 4-Day-Ticket | 60 | |
Social ticket | 30 | Pre-registration required |
Compolurker Ticket | 30 | Only valid on Sunday after 11:00, no compo prizes |
Corporate Ticket | 120 | Written company invoice |
