Entrance fee - Breakpoint financials background info As Breakpoint is a non-profit event organized entirely by unpaid volunteers, we believe in transparency regarding the money you give us to organize the party you love. As you may be aware, for the first time in years (including the Mekka&Symposium ones), we had to slightly raise the entrance fee for Breakpoint this year. However, compared to all the other big demoscene events Breakpoint still has the lowest entrance fee by far. Some of you might ask how this is possible, while again others may question where those 45 Euro go to. Well, here is the answer.... Here is a list of what is paid for using the 45 Euro we get per person. These are avarages, rounded to full euros.
Wee. Yeah, that's right. From the 45 Euros paid by each visitor, we spend a whopping 84 Euros on party features. The difference of 39 Euros is paid for by our sponsors (in 2003, when we didn't have enough sponsors, much of the difference had to be paid by the organizing team instead...). For those interested in comparing where last years 40 Euros went into, have a look at last year's survey, which includes a table similar to the one above. As you can see some major points of cost have changed dramatically. Much less money is now wasted on improving the bad infrastructure (compare heating costs), and most money now is spent on things that matter - party features like an impressive video and audio system, the seminars - and of course the competition prize money. Due to the switch of location, we however have to do a bunch of one-time investments - we need to buy a carpet floor for the hall and audio insulation, to name the two most important investements. That's where the additional 5 Euros you've got to pay compared to last year more or less go into. Ok, so now you know what your money exactly is supporting. Your Breakpoint Organizing Team |
